Before becoming a coach, Jason Kidd had been playing as an NBA point guard for 19 seasons. Considered as a point guard who would make his teammates better and an efficient rebounder, J.Kidd played in several franchises such as Dallas, Phoenix, New Jersey ( the old version of the Brooklyn nets ) and New York where he finished his NBA player carreer.
The following year he signed in as head coach for the Brooklyn Nets who had obtained Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce during the summer. But the 2013/2014 season was very difficult for the Brooklyn Nets and coach Kidd : he had problems with the NBA and had to pay a 50,000 $ fine for intentionally spilling over a soda to earn a mini time-out. The Brooklyn Nets were playing the Los Angeles Lakers and were trailing by 3 with 8.3 seconds to go. Kidd was holding a cup full of soda and asked his point guard Tyshawn Taylor to bump into him "unintentionally", so that he could gain time in order to set up a play for their last possession. But video replays accused Kidd and punished the newly arrived coach. Overall the Nets struggled in the regular season but managed to clinch a playoff spot. They won the first round by beating the Toronto Raptors 4-3 but lost in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals vs Miami. The Nets disappointed in the end and coach Kidd accepted an offer from Milwaukee. But why go to Milwaukee ?
First of all an important aspect to consider before choosing a destination is the weather : but Milwaukee is the second NBA franchise where the average temperature is the lowest after Minnesota. So if coach Kidd accepted the offer and he doesn't go there to have nice weather, you would think Milwaukee has a stacked team. The Bucks do not qualify as a "stacked team", but they do have some potential with guys like Jabari Parker (the 2nd overall pick of this year's draft), Giannis Antetokounmpo, John Henson and Brandon Knight. But when you see the talented and experienced roster Kidd had back in Brooklyn you still don't understand why he chose Milwaukee. Well the answer is the expectations Kidd has on his back : here in Milwaukee nobody is hoping that he will win the title next year with this squad and, whatever he does, he won't be criticized at the end of the year because with Milwaukee he is expected to bring progress to this team who finished last of the Eastern Conference the year before.

Mais la saison 2013/2014 fut très difficile pour les Nets et coach Kidd : il eut des problèmes avec la NBA et dut verser 50,000 $ d'amende pour avoir renverser un verre de soda intentionnellement lors d'un match pour obtenir un mini temps-mort. Les Nets de Brooklyn jouait les Lakers de Los Angeles et perdait de trois points à 8.3 secondes restantes dans le dernier quart-temps. Kidd tenait un gobelet rempli de soda et demada à son meneur Tyshawn Taylor de le bousculer "par accident", afin qu'il puisse bénéficier de temps pour mettre en place un système à réaliser lors de leur dernière possession de balle. Mais des ralentis vidéos filmèrent Kidd en train de demander à son meneur " Rentre moi dedans !".
Au global les Nets rencontrèrent beaucoup de difficultés lors de la saison régulière mais réussirent tout de même à atteindre les playoffs. Ils passèrent le premier tour en battant les Raptors de Toronto 4-3 mais échouèrent en demi-finale de la Conférence Est face au tenant du titre Miami Heat. Les Nets qui étaient de sérieux prétendants au titre déçurent et Jason Kidd accepta une offre de coach à Milwaukee. Mais pourquoi accepter Milwaukee après Brooklyn ?
Tout d'abord un critère important à prendre en compte avant de choisir une destination est le climat : mais Milwaukee est la deuxième franchise de NBA où le climat est le plus rude après Minnesota. Donc si coach Kidd accepta l'offre et qu'il n'y vas pas pour le climat, il serait normal de penser que les Bucks de Milwaukee forment une équipe très forte. Ce n'est toujours pas le cas de Milwaukee, mais cependant, ils ont tout de même du potentiel avec des joueurs comme Jabari Parker (le 2e pick de la draft 2014), Giannis Antetokounmpo, John Henson and Brandon Knight. Mais quand on remarque l'effectif plein de talent et d'expérience qu'il avait à sa disposition à Brooklyn on ne comprend toujours pas pourquoi il a choisit Milwaukee. La réponse est en fait les attentes qui planent sur les épaules de coach Kidd chez les Bucks : à Milwaukee personne ne s'attend à ce qu'il gagne le titre la saison prochaine et, quoi qu'il fasse, il ne sera pas autant critiqué qu'à Brooklyn à la fin de l'année parce qu’avec Milwaukee on attend de lui qu'il fasse progresser les joueurs et améliore l'équipe qui est arrivée dernière de la Conférence Est l'année précédente.
